About us

Analytics-first. Hawaii-based.

The flight is the easy part. What matters is what you make of the imagery afterward.

Our story

Where we come from.

Groundtruth Labs grew out of years of research experience, including work recognized at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). That foundation shapes how we work: every analysis is documented, and every finding ties back to an actual decision.

Hawaii's agriculture and construction sectors were an obvious fit. Both deal with large, changing land areas where a ground-level view misses most of what's happening. Most operators were still making calls from site walks.

We built Groundtruth Labs to close that gap: bring research-grade remote sensing to Hawaii's farms, orchards, and construction sites without the overhead of owning and operating drones.

The model

Asset-light by design.

Licensed local drone operators handle all flight operations under FAA regulations. We coordinate scheduling, define capture requirements, and take over the moment imagery hits the processing pipeline.

The focus

100% analytics.

We don't split attention between selling hardware, managing pilots, and delivering analysis. The analysis is the whole job.

How we operate

What you can expect.

Research rigor

Our analytical methods come from ISEF-recognized research work. Every deliverable is documented and reproducible. We can show our work.

Hawaii-rooted

We understand Hawaii's terrain, microclimates, and agricultural practices. Reports come with local context, not just raw output.

Asset-light model

We don't own drones. We partner with licensed FAA operators to coordinate flights, then focus entirely on the analysis.

Fast turnaround

48 hours from flight to delivered report is our standard, not the exception.

Client-first

We start every engagement with a discovery call. No surprise invoices, no scoping in the dark. You know what you're getting before we begin.

The team

Who we are.

Tahan B.

Co-Founder

Tahan is a student at Punahou School with a focus on sustainability, data science, and environmental technology. He was part of Punahou's inaugural Sustainability Fellowship cohort, where he analyzed wave energy data using acoustic profiling instruments at the University of Hawaiʻi Wave Energy Lab.

Josh Z.

Co-Founder

Josh is a student at Punahou School in Hawaiʻi with a background in computer science and applied AI research. He has spent the past two years working with the University of Hawaiʻi AI Transportation Lab, where he heavily contributed to research on nighttime pedestrian behavior recognition and LiDAR-based sensing.

Let's start a conversation.

Every engagement starts with a free discovery call. No commitment, no invoice, just a conversation about what you need and whether we're the right fit.
